Deep Enough to Dream
By Chris Rice
Welcome to Our World
see related

Welcome to Our World by Chris Rice is my favorite Christmas song. I don't know how to have my site play it, so I'll just leave you all with the lyrics. They're beautiful!!!

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking

How we need to hear from God

You’ve been promise, we’ve been waiting

Welcome Holy Child, Welcome Holy Child

Hope you don’t mind our manger

How I wish we would have known

Long awaited Holy Stranger

Make yourself at home, Please make yourself at home

Bring your peace into our violence

Bid our hungry souls be filled

We’re now waking Heaven’s silence

Welcome to our world, welcome to our world

Fragile fingers sent to heal us

Tender brow prepared for thorn

Tiny heart whose blood will save us

Unto us is born, unto to us is born

So wrap our injured flesh around you

Breathe our air and walk our sod

Rob our sin and make us holy

Perfect Son of God, perfect Son of God

Welcome to our world

I guess its been a while since my last post. We had a busy weekend. Carrie's brother graduated from college on Friday, and on Saturday Carrie helped her Mom get everything set up for his party on Sunday. To make this go more smoothly, I was on "Devin Duty". Saturday afternoon. And we just had a blast. We pulled all the cushions off the couches and made a fort. We played, rough-housed, and had some great Daddy and Devin time. Carrie and I don't know what we're going to do when we have to put the Christmas Tree away in a couple weeks. Every morning when Devin wakes up, that is the first thing he asks for. He loves that tree and he even waves and says goodnight to it before he goes to sleep. It's pretty cute.

This is my last week at the VA. I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'll miss the great folks with which I work, and on the other hand, I'm not going miss the abysmal communication and the bureaucratic BS. I've learned a lot there, but I'm ready to rock n' roll with Metlife. While I'm a little nervous about starting a new job, I'm confident that this the best move for Carrie and me.

It doesn't seem possible that Christmas is right around the corner. Advent has gone by so quickly (I guess it always does). I wish everyone who reads this a joyful, blessed, and peaceful Christmas. I'll probably won't post again until early 2006.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. As I mentioned in my last post, Matthew (waashew)  and I went to see King's X last Wednesday at the Hurricane in Westport. All I can say is HOLY CRAP!!! I've seen them about seven times and I've never seen them play so tight and so full of enery. Their vocals were soulful and emotive and they rocked out like nobody's business. Matthew and I got to meet dUg after the show. There was quite a line to meet the band so we didn't want to take up much time. But he was friendly and gracious. It's nice to see a band that's been around for 25 years be so humble.  Matthew and I had a blast and the Guiness was flowing freely. It's nice to spend time with good friends.  And on to Thanksgiving...

Carrie (heytherepal) and I drove down to Springfield to see my family. My Mom made a great Thanksgiving feast with usual fare. We had Unlce Greg (Mom's brother) and Aunt Jackie and my cousins, Anthony and Anderson, over from Poplar Bluff. That was the first time they met Devin. I think its safe to say that they liked him. And later that evening Uncle Ralph and Aunt Jo (Dad's sister), and more cousins, Gabe, Ralph, Marty, and Mike came over for dessert, along with Pa and Nana. I love my family. On Friday we got the news that my cousin, Ralph, was hit by a drunk driver. By the Grace of God, he made it with virtually no injuries!! Of course he was rushed to the hospital. But after a full work-up and X-rays, he was sent home. We all breathed  a sigh of relief when we heard he was home safe. An army of angels must have surrounded his car. Things like this just make you all the more thankful for your family.

On Sunday Carrie and I decorated for Christmas and put up some lights on our house. Devin gets so excited looking at our tree and the lights. He says "lights", "tree", and "pretty". This past Monday after driving home from the gym and noticing all the lit up houses in our neighborhood, I took Devin for a drive to look at the lights. He could barely contain himself. He was hooting and screeching with excitement. He was babbling something that sounded like he was trying to say "look at the lights, pretty". It sounded more like "oodle-ee-ooo, peedy". The look on his face was one of innocense and wonderment. My heart overflows with joy just thinking about it. I wish everyone a blessed Advent season.

Last evening I took the Series 6 exam for Metlife. It's pretty much about stocks, bonds, mutual funds, tax law, and federal regulations. The study materials were about 300 pages. Its about as fun as watching paint dry. I've never been so hot at taking or passing tests. So it was such a relief to have passed. 70% is passing and I scored an 83% (hooooray!!). After I came home, Carrie (heytherepal) bought me a pumkin pie, a pint of Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, and we rented Madagascar (spelling?). She's so awesome. Devin liked most of the movie too (his attention span isn't quite the length of a movie). But he loved the monkies and the lion; he kept saying "rooaaarr" whenever he saw Alex the lion. I'll start with Metlife in about a month or so. The next and last test I have to take is the Series 63 (state regulations). I'm told this one is earies than the Series 6. My "reward" for having passed this test is going to see King's X the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (one of my all-time favorite bands) with Matthew Harkins (waashew) . This will be our third time (my 7th) seeing them. The last two times Jason Molnar (MattysBro)  was with us. I wish he could go with us. King's X is very loud, but their sound production is incredible. dUg (singer/bass player) tunes is bass lower than most people, and it makes your intestines rumble. It's really quite an experience. Now I'm just beginning to ramble....

This past Friday, Carrie, Devin, and I went shopping. I won't say the name of the stroe at which we shopped, but it starts with K and ends with OHLS. Let me preface this by saying I have no problem with getting in a little Christmas shopping befor the ensueing insanity the day after Thanksgiving. However, one should not have to hear Christmas music oozing from the store speakers before Thanksgiving. This makes me want to vomit with rage. For damn sakes, by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, most folks are already tired of Christmas. There is something dreadfully wrong with this. It's a known fact the Christmas has been grossly commercialized and has become nothing more than a marketing ploy. There's not too much I can really do about this. But I encourage all you read my blog to to really take the time to enjoy and relish the holidays this year (both Thanksgiving and Christmas). It's so easy to get caught up in the rush and the spending frenzy.  These holidays are a time to spend with our family and friends and be thankful for our many blessings and stand in awe and wonderment of the Christ Child. I pray that this upcoming holiday season will be one of peace, joy, and blessings.
